Department now counts three NW3C-certified investigators as it works toward agency-level certification

KEARNY, N.J., The Kearny Police Department is proud to announce that two of its detectives, Detective Anthony Nunez and Detective Bryan San Martin, have earned the Certified Cyber Crime Investigator (3CI) credential from the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C), a nationally recognized certification in the investigation of cyber and internet-facilitated crime.

The 3CI credential validates an investigator’s ability to detect, respond to, and investigate cybercrimes. To earn the certification, applicants must demonstrate a qualifying combination of directly related work experience, education, and specialized training, and meet the standards set by NW3C, a congressionally funded nonprofit that provides training and technical assistance to law enforcement agencies nationwide.

With this achievement, the Kearny Police Department now has three 3CI-certified investigators on staff, reflecting an investment in building in-house cyber investigative capability.

“Nobody assigned this to them. Anthony and Bryan pursued this certification entirely on their own, on top of a full caseload, because they wanted to be sharper investigators for the people of Kearny. That kind of initiative is exactly what I want to see in this department. I’m proud of their drive to keep bettering themselves and raising the standard for everyone around them.” said Chief Macfie.

The certifications are part of a broader Department initiative to strengthen its investigative capacity and pursue agency-level certification through NW3C, a recognition awarded to departments that reach a threshold of certified personnel. Reaching that milestone would formally distinguish Kearny among agencies demonstrating advanced, standards-based competency in cyber and economic crime investigation.
